Friends in Christ,
The Rev. Jordan Manpign Long (President of the Lutheran Church of South Sudan) is back in the United States until the beginning of May.
One of the reasons he is here is because he is seeking to raise awareness among congregations about what God is doing in Eastern Africa through the Lutheran Church of South Sudan. Rev. Long has some exciting things to share.
For instance, the Lutheran Church of South Sudan is growing rapidly, adding many new congregations to it. They are reaching people for Jesus Christ and ministering to the poorest of the poor.
Trinity Lutheran Seminary and College in Gambella, Ethiopia (the school of the LCSS) is currently training 50 pastors. The seminary also has an extension site here in Omaha where it trains Sudanese pastors, and through the internet it trains pastors in Kenya, Africa.
The college in Africa has grown from 100 students less than 2 years ago to over 1000 at the present time, and it currently has sites in 3 communities (with the possibility of adding another site). The Lutheran Church of South Sudan is also ministering to Africans in the United States through its new North American Mission District.
Would your congregation be able to have Rev. Long come at some time between now and May to share with your congregation the continuing story of what God is doing through the LCSS? Rev. Long can preach at a service, lead a Bible class, speak to congregational leadership, etc.
If you are able to fit Rev. Long into your church schedule, please contact me at email@example.com
God's richest blessings to you during this Lenten season.
Rev. Douglas Morton
LCSS Missionary to North America & Dean of Theological Education at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Gambella, Ethiopia & Omaha, Nebraska
